Dream Destination: Zambia
on September 1, 2012 at 6:13 PMWhen I think about Zambia, I think about Game Parks. But there are actually many other sites to see, and places to explore when visiting the great Zambian region. While trying to search for sites and places to go when visiting Zambia, Google pointed me to the website ZambiaTourism.Com, where, aside from the famous Victoria Falls, which has breathtaking views and a multitude of adventure activities can be done by visitors there, as well as at the Zambezi River which runs from the floodplains of Barosteland in the West, cascading over Victoria falls, and raging through the steep Batoka Gorge, winding it’s way into Lake Kariba, which is ideal for houseboating excursions, over the dam wall into the spectacular Lower Zambezi plains which is flanked by game parks on either side.
As Zambia is rich in natural wonder, the following places were also noted. There’s Lake Tanganyika which is on the Northern Border, is one of the oldest, deepest, and the longest lakes in the world, boasting of many tropical fishes. Zambia has seventeen waterfalls in remote areas that one can see as he or she goes on a road trip. Then there’s the Chimp Sanctuary called, “Chimfunshi”. It is Southern Africa’s sanctuary for Chimps that they are so proud to show to the world. Then there’s Shiwa Ngandu, a remarkable old Colonial Manor house in the remotest part of Africa, which is now a hotel surrounded by a private game reserve and beautiful natural hot springs. If you love to swim, there’s Lake Bangweulu, where the waters meet the sky. I am sure the view is quite breath-taking. Of course, there’s Livingstone Memorial in the heart of Northern Zambia, where Dr Livingstone took his last breath. And finally, Lake Mweru, which is an inland life giving lake in the far North of Zambia. It is said to be surrounded by fishing villages and offers a glimpse of rural village life.
With everything I learned about Zambia, my favorite will always be the dashing Victoria Falls.. and I wish to meet her one day..
